Champissage Class Description
ChampissageTM or Indian head massage focuses on much more than the head. In fact, during a standard session clients experience a combination of techniques addressing their back, shoulders, neck, arms, and head. Massage mastery at its best; clients enjoy breath work, chakra balancing, auricular reflexology, facial marma points (pressure points), and ingenious scalp massage techniques as part of their treatment. What is ChampissageTM: Indian Head Massage? India is a country of touch and sensation, spice and flavor. Indian head massage is a reflection of its people. In India, you'll see male masseurs on street corners providing champi to their clients at all hours of the day and night. Barbers, masters of Indian Head Massage, typically provide champi routinely with every hair cut. Indian head massage is a regular, if not weekly, activity for men in India. They find it very relaxing. And, you can tell by their beautiful hair and skin that Indian head massage works to promote full hair growth and soft supple skin. Likewise, women practice champi. Traditionally, women use aromatic oils and rub each others scalp and hair in the privacy of the home or in small groups outside in the hot sunshine of India in groups. Indian women are renowned for their thick, lustrous hair and elegant beauty. The Founder of ChampissageTM is Narendra Mehta, who is based in London, UK. Having been totally blind since the age of one, he has developed a highly sensitive power of touch and has over 25 years experience in bodywork (physical therapist and as an manipulative therapist) and has studied various hands-on therapies. In 1978, Narendra Mehta went to India to research "head massage" and subsequently developed his own unique therapy of Indian Head Massage (ChampissageTM), based on the traditional form of Champi and his own experience as a practicing therapist. Narendra Mehta trademarked ChampissageTM in 1981. He has been running Indian Head Massage courses since 1995. Currently, classes are regularly taught in most of Europe, Japan, Canada, New Zealand and in the USA, where there are three certified Champissage Instructors.
